Walking
is
perhaps the most popular form of exercise among
those trying to lose
weight and it is no wonder why...It's Easy! It
doesn't take a whole lot of effort to take a walk around the block,
which unfortunately is all most people really do. In an
attempt to lose weight fast the vast majority of couch potatoes throw
on a
jogging suite and comfortable shoes and take a walk around the block
once or twice a week.
Even those who are doing this
every single day very rarely get any noticeable results. Case
in point: take a look at the photo below. That's a
picture of the street block I used to live on in Wisconsin.
I
can't tell you how many of the same people (almost always overweight)
walk down that street every day in their gear and yet I've seen these
same people for months on end never getting results!
This is not a
knock against these people, it's just that you'd think after a while
they would get sick of all this not getting thinner B.S.!
I
truly hope you'll understand that there is a major problem with walking
to lose weight.
#1
Issue With Walking To Lose Weight
There is one major problem with trying to get any significant
results by walking or doing some other form of similar exercise.
It's this issue that will never allow you to experience the
kind of weight loss you truly deserve.
What is it?
The
lack of INTENSITY.
Listen. Hark unto
me. Intensity is usually the single greatest factor to making
an exercise actually produce results. In fact, in my
experience, if people are not burning fat than it's usually a case of
intensity. They're just not working hard enough.
I
realize this sounds a bit simplistic, but it really is just that easy.
Remember
the following, the greater the exercise intensity the greater the
results typically will be.
Bottom line...
WALKING
IS TOO SLOW. It's not a knock against
walking (it actually has many health benefits)... it's just reality.
Too many people walk every single day of the week and are
still very overweight. It's because they are using the wrong
tool for the job!
You need intensity... period!
Look,
you shouldn't be disappointed
when you don't see the scale plummet. Don't get
me wrong, the health benefits of walking are absolutely tremendous.
However, when it comes to weight loss you need to realize
that
walking to lose weight
does not burn a large amount of calories or get your heart
rate up
unless some effort is put into it.
Do you really
believe that a
half
hour walk each day is going to get your thin?
If
you do than you're believe a lie. I understand that it's
great for your health, but it's a lot like trying to launch a rocket
with a rubber band. Your intentions are good but it isn't
going to work!
Now. With that said, there
is a very well documented form of walking that studies have shown can
actually alter your body's biochemistry and cause amazing fat loss.
That Is Called Long Distance Walking
Basically,
the longer you walk the more your body gets into a fat burning rhythm.
Sounds strange I realize, but it really does work.
Plus, the health benefits of
long
distance walking are almost beyond belief.
Here's
the thing though, do you really have the time to walk 3 to 4 hours each
day?
Of course not. Most people don't have
the time and
wouldn't want to even if they did. That's why you need an
alternative to walking to lose weight. Something that takes
less time and produces far greater results. As I mentioned in
the video this alternative is called interval training.
Basically,
interval training is a way to take a longer exercise such as walking to
lose weight and make it
shorter all while enhancing your results. In fact, you should
go to Google and look up some of the research that has been don on
this. It's a proven fat burner.
So a
simple example of doing this would be as follows...
Instead
of spending 30 minutes to an
hour walking, take 15 to 20
minutes
each day and do interval training.
Run
(or jog at a brisk pace) for 1 minute,
then rest for 30
seconds, then run again
for 1 minute, than rest for 30 seconds.
And
so on and so on. This is a very simple
example of
interval training.
Now,
I realize that if you are like most the word
effort sends a bit
of a scare through you, that's why you keep trying to get results
walking. It's easy and take practically no effort!
Interval
training requires you to actually move your lazy behind.
Something that many of you haven't done in years!
But
the results will show up if you do it.
And just like
I mentioned in my article on running, get yourself a good pair of
shoes. Those are my Nike fusions below and I love them.
The fact that they were a gift to me makes them all that much
sweeter!
Once again, make
sure your shoes are good if you're overweight and plan on either
running, jogging or walking long distances. This is
especially true if your doing these things on hard surfaces such as the
typical asphalt road shown below.
Carrying around
an extra 20 to 50 pounds for long distances on these hard surfaces
begins to impact your knees and joints.
And once
again, if you really don't want to do the interval training I mentioned
above and plan on walking to lose weight, then you had better damn
well commit yourself to doing it every day further
than just around the block. In fact, as I mentioned above,
the best
results are obtained when individuals walk for several hours each day.
Walking
for extended periods of
time places your body in a
calorie burning state
and will help you lose
weight.
