Hey
Sam,
Adrian gave some great tips there, as usual.
Just
curious, how tall are you??
Here's why I ask... a
while back I used to do email consulting (Ok
- I'm not that old) and this was before I knew better -
before I knew all the questions I should be asking. (I was what you'd call "well intentioned",
but a bit naive!) Anyway, this girl was a swimmer and no
matter what she tried she couldn't lose weight. She wanted to get down
to 135 pounds!
Seriously
- dieting, food changes, exercise switch-up... nothing seemed to work.
NOTHING! It was a classic case of "stalled weight loss".
I finally had the
genius thought of asking her how tall she was. It turned out that this girl was 5'10"!!!!
(Like I said, I was a bit naive back then!) Her weight at the time was
155. Get this - she was a swimmer and yes of course, nothing puts on
muscle mass like swimming. So naturally, besides the fact that she was
5'10"! - she was "solid as a rock" from swimming. As you know, muscle weighs
more than fat!
Here's my point, if you're a "workout
junkie" and using p90x (or some
other muscle development) then you will have built more
muscle than you had a few years back in 09, so naturally you'll hit a
point when the weight reduction slows way down. Doesn't mean you're
fat, just much more solid.
(She had filled her head with this idea that she was supposed to weigh the same as those toothpick thin 5'7" swimsuit models)Of course, if you are
still really flabby and all this exercise hasn't helped, then I'd bet
on the fact that it's your diet! I realize that vegetarians and vegans
won't agree with this (To heck with
them), but I've found that bumping the protein intake up
can have big impact when people plateau. All that working out you're
doing may have worn your muscles out and tired muscles and body will
retain fat. Adding protein can "revive" them. (It's a great fat burning food)
Hope
this helps,
-Jason
P.S.
To all you vegans out there... you know I love ya!
I wouldn't tease if I didn't care! And just for the record,
I do believe that eating mostly "plant based" is one of the healthiest
things you can do.
