Several studies have shown that the correlation
between lack of sleep
and obesity is a two way street...Meaning the less you sleep the more
likely you are to gain weight and the more you gain weight, the less
likely you are to sleep.
According to NHANES, those who sleep only five
hours per night are 73%
more likely to become obese than those getting seven to nine hours. It
seems that just one hour of sleep can have a tremendous impact on your
weight.
On the flip side, many studies have indicated that
those who
are overweight are less likely to get a good nights rest.
Consider this.... As obesity has reached epidemic proportions, the
incidence of insomnia and sleep deprivation has also risen.
Perhaps
you have family members who are overweight?
Do
they often complain about not getting a good nights rest?
The
truth is that many people are suffering from sleep deprivation
without ever considering that it may have something to do with their
weight.
Losing weight can in many ways help you avoid sleep deprivation and
other more serious sleep related disorders caused by obesity.
