Gain Muscle Mass and Burn More Fat

To gain muscle mass is to increase the rate at which you burn fat!
If you want to shed fat and look your best you can't ignore the importance that muscle will have in your success.

Weight training and other exercises designed to increase muscle mass should not be neglected. These exercises promote muscle development resulting in an increased metabolism.

Gaining muscle is important for several reasons:
  • Muscle burns more calories than fat:
Muscle is metabolically active, meaning that it requires calories to be maintained. Research shows that one pound of muscle burns anywhere between 35 to 50 calories a day. It is estimated that muscle burns around nine times as many calories as fat.

  • Muscle burns calories even when you are at rest:
Studies have shown that weight training increases basal metabolic rate (the rate at which you burn calories when you rest) by about 15%.

  • Muscle increases total body metabolism:
When you increase muscle mass you will influence the other functions of your body, effectively increasing your metabolism. This means that the other functions of your body can actually become more efficient calorie burners.

It's not hard to gain muscle mass if you work at it. There are many ways to promote muscle development. One of the best is through weight training. Don't get scared away by the notion that weight training is grueling. Weight training can be fun, as well as a great way to relieve stress.
