Fiber
and Weight Loss
Many
studies have shown that fiber and weight loss are indeed
connected. That those who consume a high fiber diet are slimmer,
healthier people.
There are several reasons for this...
Fiber...
1. Allows digested food to move more easily through the colon.
2.
Helps reduce the absorption rate of fat.
3. Acts as
an
intestinal mop and cleans up toxins which cause a
sluggish metabolism.
4. Takes longer to break down in the intestines causing you to feel
full longer.
5. Helps add volume to your meals without adding calories leading to
smaller portion size.
6. Helps maintain blood glucose levels leading to a much more
controllable appetite.
And yet, despite all the
positive weight loss
benefits, the vast
majority of us consume diets incredibly low in fiber.
Found only in plant-based food, fiber comes in two forms:
- Soluble - can be dissolved in water
- Insoluble - not able to be dissolved
Fiber is unique in the sense that your body is not able to digest it.
Instead of being absorbed into the bloodstream and used
as energy, fiber passes directly through the body.
It is not surprising that those who consume a
primarily plant-based
diet are generally,
slimmer people... Further proof that fiber and weight loss are
connected. Unlike food derived from animals, which contains
no fiber, plant-based foods tend to be high in fiber.
