Best
Exercises
for Fast Weight Loss
Looking
for the best exercises for fast weight loss?
As long as we are on this earth "experts" are going
to argue over the
question of best exercises. The truth is that there are many
very good weight loss exercises. It is more a matter of finding something that you
enjoy.
Find an exercise that you enjoy, combine it with
intensity and you have a winner!
In fact, when
it comes to losing weight, intensity plays a far bigger role than type
of exercise.
There have been many myths surrounding exercise
intensity and how it
relates to weight loss. The most prevalent of all is the myth about the
"fat burning zone". The fat burning zone is simply the heart rate range
at which your body burns the most fat. Whenever you exercise
your body draws on carbohydrates (typically a
sugar called glycogen) and fat. It is scientifically
proven that during slow paced, low intensity exercises, such as
walking, the human body burns a greater percentage
of fat than carbohydrates.
The percentage of fat
burned during low intensity exercises is
typically from 50 to 60 percent of total calories burned. During high
intensity exercises, the percentage of fat calories burned is typically
around 30 percent.
Many "experts" have taken this
out of context and recommended low
intensity exercises as the best exercises for fast weight loss because
they keep you in the "fat burning zone". However, if you are
overweight, your goal should be to burn the maximum
amount of fat calories when you exercise. High intensity
exercises burn more overall fat calories than low intensity exercises.
For instance, you could walk for one hour and you
would typically burn
around 200 calories. Conversely, you could run for half the time (30
minutes) and you would typically burn about 700 calories. During the
walk about 120 of the total calories burned would be fat and during the
run about 210 of the total calories burned would be fat.
The run burns far more calories and therefore it winds up
burning more
fat calories!
Running and other high intensity exercises also
have the extra benefit of a longer impact on your metabolism.
After an intense workout you will continue to burn calories at a high
rate.
It is very
similar to your car engine, after a long trip it takes a long time to
cool down.
When it comes to the best exercises for fast weight
loss, high
intensity exercises will yield faster weight loss results.
