Why Should You Drink Water to Lose Weight?

Why should you breathe air to live?

If you drink water to lose weight you are doing one of the most important things you can do to experience fast results.  Proper hydration is a must for an efficient metabolism. Metabolism is the body's use of energy to carry out body functions: breathing, heart beat, digesting food, walking...

One of the livers primary functions is to metabolize fat. It converts fat into the energy the body uses. If you are dehydrated your liver will not function efficiently and you won't efficiently remove the fat from your body.  If you can't efficiently remove fat from your body, your weight loss will be a struggle!

Lack of water doesn't just affect the burning of fat. If you don't drink water to lose weight the removal of waste from your body will be negatively impacted.

Have you ever seen a construction site? There is a lot of building and a lot of waste generated as a result. It's on the ground, in dumpsters...Everywhere!  Imagine if the waste was not continually disposed of...When you are losing weight your body is metabolizing the stored fat (burning it off). During the fat burning process there is waste generated, just like the ashes produced when you burn wood.
If you don't drink water to lose weight you will be dehydrated and this waste will not be removed efficiently from the body. It will pile up!

What happens when it piles up?

The same thing that happens when the waste around the construction site piles up... The building process is slowed down. The ever increasing waste produces a harsh weight loss environment.

"So how much water should I drink to lose weight?"

Studies have shown that you should drink about eight - 8 ounce glasses a day. You get a lot of your water from the food you eat as well. This is why it is important to eat a lot of fruits and vegetables. These foods are almost all water.

It's really easy to get dehydrated. If you drink coffee or soda (any caffeinated drink) you are dehydrating yourself. These drinks are diuretics, meaning that they will take water out of your body.

In general, you should drink more water than you lose.  You can have a pretty good idea if you are taking in more than you lose by checking your urine (Sorry for the mental image)...Your urine should be clear every time you go. It will naturally be clear after you drink a lot of water, simply because of all of the water you just drank. This is why it's important to remember that hydration is a process...You need to make sure your urine is clear at all times.

There are other reasons you should drink water to lose weight...

Water is a natural appetite suppressant. Studies have shown that your body does not distinguish between needing more water and needing more food. When your body is telling you that you are hungry, it may actually be trying to tell you that you are thirsty.

Another reason you should drink water to lose weight is because dehydration leads to water retention. If you do not get enough water your body will store it. An excess of stored water gives you a more...Full looking figure!
