There are about 150 to 185 calories in
a regular baked potato, depending on size.
If you
eat the skin, then you could be looking at two hundred or more.
Which isn't too bad.
Here's the surprising
thing though...
Most people don't realize that
regular potatoes (I'm talking normal baking or russet) can be even
worse than consuming pasta or the like if you're trying to lose weight.
Here's
why.
Potatoes are very "starchy" in
nature.
Basically, your body treats them much like a
sugar. It absorbs them fairly fast. This leads to a spike in
blood sugar resulting in excess fat storage. Especially
during times of inactivity.
And that's the problem
guys.
Most of you are eating them for dinner... and
then you go plop down on the couch.
Now.
Don't get me wrong. Potatoes are high in iron and
other essential nutrients. They can be very healthy.
Unless you are eating French fries or frying them in huge
amounts of oil. But you need to be wise about how you consume
them.
Try to do it during the day, when you are more
active.
Also. And here's something that
most people are not aware of. Sweet potatoes are actually
superior to regulars in that they don't cause the elevated blood sugar.
Regardless
of the name, the calories in sweet potatoes are much less "starchy" and
I tend to recommend them versus regular baked for those who are trying
to lose weight.
