If
you are trying to lose weight and using the bmi index to figure you're
progress, then this will be the most important letter you will ever
read.
Here's why. I'm going to explain why
the BMI index is a JOKE!
Plus, I'll give you a much
better option that will save you a bunch of hassles.
Let's
begin...
I
recently posted a follow-up comment on an
article that was posted on a highly trafficked site. I'm not
going to list the site because quite frankly I'm going to "rip it".
That site,
like most others in the weight loss niche talk about using bmi to track
your weight loss.
Here's the comment I posted...
Hey
guys,
Take this for what it's worth and I'm sure it
will offend a few people here, especially "experts", but using BMI to
figure out if you're getting thin is a Joke, out-dated, and will just flat out rob you of getting real results!
Here's
why...
Most of you simply focus on losing
"pounds". Well guess what, if I'm 5'5" and twenty pounds
overweight and the BMI index tells me that I'm overweight.
Then I go out and lose 25 pounds in one month. Well,
according to the BMI index I would be within my ideal body range.
Here's
the problem...
You can still be fat, bombed out and completely unhealthy!!
Here's why. The
problem is most people simply go out and lose muscle and water and that
makes up a bunch of the weight they lose. This is especially
true if they lose it fast - like on a diet where you are eating like a
bird. Basically starving yourself... something that is guaranteed to "F-Up" you metabolic function.
Take it for what it's worth, but BMI has many
huge issues guys and those who keep writing about it don't seem to have a clue.
If I we're you I'd take my current
"body fat percentage". I'd have that professionally checked.
Many gyms will do it for free. Sure, it's not an absolutely "fool-proof" solution,
but it's a much better measure to go by then BMI. Then I
would make my sole focus on burning body fat. Go do that for
three weeks. Then come back and get your body fat percentage
taken again.
Then you will know for sure... period!
And
I'll tell you what, I'd way rather lose 5 pounds of fat than lose 10
pounds of a mixture of water, muscle and a little fat mixed in.
Just
food for thought.

Ok. So that was the comment. Trust
me guys. Focus on body fat... not bmi index.
I've
been doing this for a long time and you will have much better luck
doing it that way.
